Arts & Ideas New Haven 2005 Features The Brazz Brothes and Randi Tytingvåg

Now in its tenth year, the Festival is firmly established as one of the world’s most significant arts festivals. It has the distinction of fusing arts and ideas programs to present a broad array of offerings within and across genres. The Festival showcases hundreds of international events each summer, and this year The Brazz Brothers and Randi Tytingvåg will be the featured Norwegian artists.

The Brazz Brothers
From Norway comes this brass band of brothers - two sets of twins, in fact, an extra brother plus one odd drummer of no relation whatsoever..  A crowd favorite at international festivals and concerts, The Brazz Brothers are brilliant musicians whose live performances snap with original compositions and refreshing arrangements. The Brazz Brothers plays traditional and modern jazz, and folk songs from around the globe.  They are: Jarle Førde (trumpet/flugelhorn), Jan Magne Førde (trumpet/flugelhorn), Runar Tafjord (french horn), Helge Førde (trombone), Stein Erik Tafjord (tuba) and Marcus Lewin (drums).

Thursday, June 16 at 8 pm at Branford College Courtyard Yale University, 74 High Street (Tickets $35).
Sunday, June 18 at 8 pm at Battell Chapel (Tickets $25) , Elm & College Streets. Special event; Sacred Sundays: The Brazz Brothers with the Heritage Chorale.


Randi Tytingvag
From Stavanger, Norway, singer/composer Randi Tytingvag created a stir with her debut on the music scene at the International Maijazz Festival in 2001. Her acclaimed new album, Heavenly Attack, released in the fall of 2004, mixes acoustic with electronic/programmed music into one dynamic expression. Known for creating a special atmosphere whenever she takes the stage, Tytingvag is an exciting singer with remarkable range and style. Her compositions are a crossover of different styles that have influenced her, including jazz, rock, classical, cabaret, electronica and folk.
For her Festival performance, she will sing selections of her own material, jazz standards, and Norwegian folk music, featuring Christian Eriksen on piano. Tickets $20.
