NORWAY at the Brooklyn Museum of Art

The 2005 Norwegian Commemorative Committee of New York and Brooklyn Museum of Art will present a festive family program on June 5. This event is part of the yearlong commemoration of Norway’s 100th anniversary as an independent nation. In conjunction with the International Kidsfilmfest at the Brooklyn Museum of Arts, a Norwegian festival will take place focusing on children. The theme will, of course, include trolls. The program begins with a wonderful  performance of the Norwegian folktale, 'Three Billy Goats Gruff' and their encounter with the Troll. Susan Olsen Maren will play the traditional Hardanger Fiddle, an instrument specific to Norway. After the performances, the children can make troll masks and watch demonstrations in Rosemaling (Norwegian decorative painting) and woodcarving.
