Trond Giske was also in meetings with representatives from the American library establishment to learn from American experiences, and discuss the future of the library as an important public institution and place of learning.
“I was impressed by the sheer number of Norwegian artist working and exhibiting in New York,” said Minister Trond Giske. “The quality of the work I saw, and the fact that Børre Sæthre is having a solo exhibition at renowned P.S.1/Moma, is a testament to the depth and vigor of Norwegian cultural life in New York.”

The Minister of Culture and Church Affairs also paid a visit to the Norwegian Seamen's Church to meet the staff, attend a service and see the Marcel Lelienhof photographic exhibition at the Trygve Lie Gallery.
“The way the Seamen’s Church has been able to adapt and evolve with the changing times over the last 130 years is truly impressive. The Seamen’s Church has been able to overcome challenges and reach out to new generations of Norwegians abroad, without ever loosing sight of their mission,” said the Minister.
