Few scholars have done more to advance the good name of Norwegian-Americans than Professor Haugen, who taught at the University of Wisconsin from 1931 to 1964 and later at Harvard. He provided teachers of Norwegian with text books, glossaries, grammar books and dictionaries; in addition he wrote books and articles on Norwegian-American history. He died in 1994 and Eva, who shared much of his work, died last October.
The Haugen Scholarship is designed to help students who will continue Haugen's work. For further information, or to make contributions, contact the Norwegian-American Historical Association, 1510 St. Olaf Avenue, Northfield, MN 55057.
