Tord Gustavsen Trio, featuring Gustavsen on piano, bassist Harald Johnson and Jarle Vespestad on drums will be touring the US this April. The New York Times has said the trio play "slow music that melts off the bandstand into puddles of feeling, backed by a low-key funk rhythm; it's séance music."
Tord Gustavsen has been an influential part of the Norwegian jazz scene for years. He has worked with several of the best jazz singers in Norway, among these Silje Nergaard and Live Maria Roggen. His piano playing blends the reflective "Nordic" moods with a lyrical beauty that creates a very distinct atmosphere. Together with him we find Harald Johnsen on bass, who's lyrical style is brought to the front in this trio, together with his inventive-yet-solid musical foundations. Jarle Vespestad is one of Scandinavia's most sought after drummers. His has a unique sense of expressive minimalism and quiet moods, which is featured in Tord's trio.
Tord Gustavsen will return to the U.S. in June for the Spoleto Festival, and perhaps for one or two other concerts as well.

The Guardian, UK describes them like this - "Soulfully hip. Haunting, hook-based themes delivered as a close three-way embrace. .. Gustavsen may not play many notes, but he does make them all count, and Vespestad's patient, multi-textured drumming is hypnotic listening."
