On April 10 at 8 pm, Deep Listening Institute Ltd. will present a concert called "Four Sides to Everything" with Pauline Oliveros, Else Olsen S., Øyvind Storesund and Christian Wolff. The concert will feature these legendary musicians performing a quartet improvisation.
Pauline Oliveros (accordion) is a composer, performer and important pioneer in American Music. Through improvisation, electronic music, ritual, teaching and meditation she has created a body of work with such breadth of vision that it profoundly affects those who experience it.
Norwegian Else Olsen S. (piano, prepared piano) is classically trained but currently performs new music and indeterminate music. She has been working with free improvisation in many different settings, with both classical musicians and jazz musicians, and computer performers like Ikue Mori (US). On a regular basis Else plays in Adeaforon (free impro), and Rød Flux (dance ensemble).
Norwegian Øyvind Storesund (double bass) is both classically trained and jazz educated. He performs free impro, indeterminate music and alternative rock. On a regular basis he plays as a member of Cloroform (alt. rock), Frode Gjerstad Trio (free impro) and Kaizers Orchestra (alt. rock).
Christian Wolff (piano/meldicon) has been active as a performer and as improvisor - with Takehisa Kosugi, Steve Lacey, Christian Marclay, Keith Rowe and William Winant, to name a few. He has received numerous awards and grants from institutions over the years, such as the American Academy, the National Institute of Arts and Letters and the Ford Foundation. In 2004 Wolff received an honorary Doctor of Arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts.
