Camp Norway, Minnesota

This summer, Concordia Language Villages introduces a new Adventure Day Camps for children ages 6-11. This is an opportunity to let your children experience the Norwegian language and culture in Minnesota’s beautiful nature.

For years, Concordia Language Villages has given children the opportunity to experience the Norwegian culture and language at Skogfjorden Summer Camp. This summer, they start up their new Adventure Day Camps, arranged especially for younger children ages 6-11. This is a perfect opportunity for children who are not ready for a residential experience, or children of vacationing families, especially those who may have older siblings attending the residential camp.

Cultural Adventure
The Adventure Day Camps will operate from 9 to 3:30 on weekdays. At arrival, the happy campers will go through “Customs”, change money and even choose a new Norwegian name. The cultural adventure includes a taste of authentic foods, sports like håndball (hand ball); there will be swimming at the beach – or badestrand, as we say in Norway, and Norwegian games. The children will take part in events like the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize; they can do arts and crafts and participate in festive celebrations the Norwegian way.

Scholarships
Concordia Language Villages annually attracts more than 9,000 participants from across the United States, and staff from around the world. 50 years after they first started providing language and cultural immersion programs, they now offer programs in 15 different languages, from Norwegian to Chinese.

Sons of Norway District 1 is, again, offering Skogfjorden scholarships to children or grandchildren of members in the amount of $85 per week. This is enabling many children to participate who might not have otherwise had the chance.

For more information about the camps and how to apply, visit Concordia’s website (select “Summer Youth,” then click on Day Camps) or call 1 (800) 450-2214.
