“My paintings are done through traditional oil techniques as well as mixed media on canvas or paper. I also make installations of box art and artist’s books. One of my artist book “Everglades in Mind” is in the collection of Museum of Modern Art in New York City.” Irene Christensen will show 4 oil paintings at Concepto Gallery.
Irene Christensen’s art has been shown in museums in Europe and The United States since the early eighties, and is currently represented in many museums and personal collections on both continents. She has lectured at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC, the Pen and Brush in New York City, as well as The Florida International University Honor Class and other institutions.
“Irene Christensen’s art is about painting as a magical act. Her images repeat and are transformed, as words and images in poems. She likes to maintain a sense of wonder in her art.
That life is strange and quirky, and contradictory, that tragedy and comedy are
not played out in separate theaters, but co-exist, side by side.”
