The New York City Norwegian Festival 2008

The 14th annual New York City Norwegian Festival 2008 took place on October 4 on a beautiful autumn day in Central Park. Over 7000 runners took part in the Norway Run and Grete’s Great Gallop, while others enjoyed Norwegian music, food and entertainment in the festival area.

The Troll Stroll for kids was one of the highlights of the day and several hundred children were introduced to the enjoyment of running, and the Norwegian sporting tradition of participation and giving it your best shot. Everyone is a winner in the Troll Stroll.

Some of the hottest names in Norwegian fashion design, Moods of Norway, Kari Traa and kids fashion brand Appaman, were present at the festival, showcasing their designs and dressing up the Norwegian Consulate staff and their children.

Most importantly, the Norwegian Seamen’s Church were serving up their popular waffles and went through their entire stock of batter as always. Hungry runners could also indulge on bagels with Norwegian Salmon from Nordic Group and Norseland cream cheese, and Isbre water from the glaciers of Norway.

Singer/Songwriter Sondre Lerche performed some of his latest hits, while Feleboga played traditional Norwegian music accompanied by folk dance.

We would like to extend a big thank you to Innovation Norway, our sponsors, and partners in Sons of Norway, the Grieg Society, the Norwegian Immigration Association and the Norwegian Seamen's Church in New York, for their ongoing help and support. A big thanks goes to SAS, Kon-Tiki Travel and Norwegian fashionbrands Moods of Norway, Appaman, Kari Traa and Napapijri for for providing some great prizes for the Norwegian Festival Raffle.
