Lapskaus Boulevard Walking Tour
The Scandinavian East Coast Museum will be holding a walking tour of Lapskaus Boulevard. Lapskaus is a type of Norwegian stew made with potatoes, carrots and salted meat and was once the colloquial name for Eight Avenue in Brooklyn, due to its large Norwegian population. Today, the avenue is predominantly Chinese, but remnants of the Norwegian history remain in the built environment, businesses, institutions and organizations. Hybridization of the Chinese and Norwegian pieces of the community will be explored and there will be a discussion on why the Norwegian dominance has dissipated. The cost is USD 15.
When: Saturday, August 6 from 10 am to 1 pm
Where: 8th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
