Nordic Spirit Symposium at the California Lutheran University

The Swedish-Norwegian Union, Nordic Nationalism and the Emergence of the Modern Scandinavian State’. Taking inspiration from the 2005 celebration of the 100-year anniversary of dissolution of the Swedish-Norwegian Union, the Nordic Spirit Symposium will focus on the historical growth of nationalism and independence of the Nordic states. Authorities from the Scandinavian countries and the United States will discuss parallels between the nationalist movements in the Nordic states, internal controversies and positive mutual influences. The program will include performances and cultural presentations on music and folk customs that evolved during the era of growing national consciousness.
