The Queen of Oseberg's Life

This exhibition by Sol B. Bækholt is a tribute to the Queen who was buried in the famous Oseberg ship. It includes Norwegian tapestry and other items describing the Oseberg Viking ship find. You may visit the exhibition at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle ( WA) from September 2  to September 25.

The discovery in 1904 of the Viking ship from the early 800's near Tønsberg, Norway, revealed a treasure of woodcarvings, tools, textiles and householdgoods. The artist's main objective is to highlight the size and cultural importance of these finds.

Featured in the exhibition is a wide range of woven and printed textiles. All figures and motives are inspired by the original Oseberg textiles. The large 78-foot-long tapestry, based on Bækholt's drawings, was woven by weavers in Krakow, Poland.
