Terje Leiren, professor of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington, Seattle will discuss Norway's dissolution of the Union of Sweden in 1905 and examine how it served as a prologue and opening chapter to the political, cultural, and economic developments in Norway in the twentieth century. To fully appreciate Norway in the 20th century, including such diverse areas as Norwegian self-image and the economic role of the national oil industry, one must understand the influence and legacy of the events of 1905. Norwegian Immigration Association (NIA) is also supporting the event.
