Lillehammer Lodge Manhattan, Sons of Norway and the Norwegian Seamen’s Church of New York invite you a scintillating program interviewing two prominent Norwegian and Norwegian American journalists on their perspectives, experiences, and challenges covering the United States for Norwegians, and publishing a newspaper for Norwegian-Americans.
Journalists: Kristin Nilsen, U.S. correspondent for Aftenposten since 2002, has criss-crossed the US covering politics, elections, culture and social issues; and Marianne Onsruud Jawanda is the owner, publisher and editor of Norway Times/Nordisk Tidene, one of only 2 papers in the US serving the Norwegian-American community.
Among the issues to be addressed: What hot topics do Norwegians want to know about America? What was it like to cover the US elections? Why are Norwegians so consumed with the Michael Jackson trial? What are the challenges of publishing a newspaper for the Norwegian and Norwegian-American community in the US today? What role does the Norway Times serve? Can the newspaper survive, or even flourish, given the shrinking size of the community?
Interviewers:
Sandra Lotz Fisher, president of Lillehammer Lodge, Sons of Norway; contributing editor and columnist for Norway Times, marketing consultant/coach, and teacher at the International Summer School at the University of Oslo.
