Her Majesty Queen Sonja reveals the beauty of contemporary Norway in her presentation at the Baird Auditorium, National Museum of Natural History, Monday, September 19, at 6.30 pm. Following the lecture participants are invited to a reception.
Queen of Norway since January 1991, Her Majesty Queen Sonja is an active patron of many Norwegian organizations, a humanitarian concerned with the plight of refugees and the disabled, and a committed supporter of Norwegian culture.
Her Majesty was involved in the organization of the Princess Märtha Louise Fund, which provides assistance to disabled Norwegian children. She has traveled extensively both in Norway and abroad to study and sponsor the work of hospitals, refugee camps, and rehabilitation centers. In recognition of her contributions, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees awarded the Nansen Medal to Her Majesty in 1982.
Her interest in contemporary Norwegian art is reflected in myriad projects and institutions, including the creation of public art. In this special evening, Queen Sonja presents an illustrated lecture on contemporary Norway. The images and her discussion reveal not only the talent and creativity of Norway’s artists, but also the beauty of this Nordic land.
Following the lecture participants are invited to a reception.
