Norway's Path to Peace

The Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute for the Peace Prize in Oslo, Mr. Geir Lundestad, visits Washington, DC, September 27, in connection with the Nobel Exhibition. Mr. Lundestad will be joined by John McGill, M.D., former president at the Doctors Without Borders, for a presentation on Norway's initiativ to secure peace throughout the world, at the Ripley Center, Smithsonian. 

In June the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo opened as an institution designed to bear witness to humanity’s best efforts to achieve peace in all its forms. The Center, as well as the Nobel Peace Prize, international assistance projects, and mediation efforts from Sri Lanka to the Sudan, exemplify the extraordinary initiatives of Norway to secure peace throughout the world.

In an informative discussion Geir Lundestad, director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, discusses Norway’s role as a global leader in peace, the Nobel Peace Prize, and the international developments that may assist in achieving world peace. John McGill, M.D., former president of the U.S. branch of Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) joins Dr. Lundestad to describe the impact the Nobel Peace Prize (awarded 1999) has had on the work of his organization.

Geir Lundestad is also secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and author of The United States and Western Europe Since 1945.
