Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra U.S. Tour 2007

Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra tours the U.S. in November 2007. The highlight of the tour is a concert in New York's Carnegie Hall on November 6. Music by Edvard Grieg is a natural element of the program, since 2007 is the centennial of the composer's death. Conductor is Andrew Litton.

The concert in Carnegie Hall was recently lauded by Norwegian Minister of Culture and Church Affairs, Trond Giske, as possibly the most prestigeous event of the Grieg Centennial.

Allan Kozinn of the New York Times says of the Bergen Philharmonic's interpretation of Shostakovich's Festive Overture that it "restored to this score a measure of freshness and energy that familiarity has sapped."

The Washington Post's Mark J. Estren says: "Shostakovich's 'Festive Overture' was bold, brassy and raucous. Music Director Andrew Litton wielded his baton with such enthusiasm that the front-row cellos had to duck at one point," cand of the Piano Cocerto in A minor he says: "Excellent cellos and basses provided strong grounding for clean and precise sound in Grieg's Piano Concerto. This orchestra surely knows the concerto inside out (...) but played it as if it were freshly minted."
