Edvard Grieg Society, Inc. New York, in cooperation with the Royal Norwegian Consulate General and Sons of Norway Third District, presents a concert at Lincoln Center on November 6, celebrating a century of Norwegian independence.
Renowned violinist Arve Tellefsen is the soloist in the American premiere of Norwegian composer laureate Arne Nordheim’s "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra". American cello virtuoso Darrett Adkins will play Nordheim’s "Clamavi for Solo Cello" and Norwegian baritone Per Vollestad performs songs by Edvard Grieg and Christian Sinding. The remainder of the program consists of two compositions by Johan Halvorsen: "Norwegian Rhapsody No. 1" and the American premiere of "Norway’s Greeting to Theodore Roosevelt (1910)". The featured orchestra is New York’s Orchestra of St. Luke’s under the baton of Per Brevig. Reception to follow the performance. Tickets: USD 15-65, reception USD 50.
