Pianist Håvard Gimse plays music of Haydn, Franck, Chopin, and Norwegian composers at the National Gallery of Art, November 13, 6:30 p.m. FREE
Håvard Gimse (from Kongsvinger, Norway) has established himself as a leading Scandinavian pianist.
After gaining his Diploma at "Hochschule der Künste Berlin" in 1995 (Leygraf), he studied with professor Jiri Hlinka in Norway. In 1987 he won 1:st prize in the «Jugend Musiziert Competition». Since then his career as a recording and concert artist expanded significantly without participating in piano competitions.
Gimse is recipient of the prestigious «Grieg Prize» (1996), the «Steinway Prize» (1995) and recently the Norwegian Sibelius Society´s "Sibelius Prize" (Nov 2004).
His distinct and rich musical palette reflect his artistic strength, experienced from early years and developed through extensive and varied concert activities. His repertory is equally broad, already including more than 30 concertos performed with orchestra, numerous solo works and chamber music programs.
This has brought Gimse forward as one of Norway´s most distinguished classical concert and recording artists, with more than 30 CDs to his credit.
