"Meet the Artist Reception" with Einar Røttingen

As part of the "Embassy Series" pianist Einar Røttingen will perform at the Norwegian Ambassador's residence in Washington, D.C. on February 9.

At the "Meet the artist reception" Einar Røttingen will play two major pieces by Edvard Grieg and Geir Tveitt, giving an introduction to each piece.

Edvard Grieg (1843-1907):
Ballade op.24 (in form of variations on a Norwegian folk tune)

Geir Tveitt (1908-1981):
Sonata no.29 op.129 "etere"

About Einar Røttingen
In 2005 Røttingen was soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in the first performance of Knut Vaage's Piano Concerto "The Gardens of Hokkaido". He has recently released the solo-CD Norwegian Variations (Chosen as "Selection of the month" in International Piano March/April 2006 and awarded "Record of the Year 2005" of the Grieg Society of Great Britain) which includes Grieg's Ballade op.24 and sonatas by Fartein Valen and Geirr Tveitt. This CD is also part of a newly finished PhD Doctoral project "Establishing a Norwegian Piano Tradition: Interpretive sides of Edvard Grieg's Ballade op.24, Fartein Valen's Sonata no.2 and Geirr Tveitt's Sonata no.29 op.129".

Einar Røttingen has received the "City of Bergen Cultural Prize" for his outstanding work as musician and pedagogue. At the Bergen International Festival he also was awarded the "Robert Levin Festival Prize" for his recordings of Sæverud's piano music and his profile as a pianist. He is currently Professor of Music Performance and Head of the Masters Program in Performance at the Grieg Academy, Department of Music, University of Bergen.
