The Workroom – A Play

Norwegian actress Anna Guttormsgaard is featured in this play at Manhattan Theatre Source.
The scenes in The Workroom occur in post World War II Paris, between 1945 and 1952.
Playwright Jean-Claude Grumberg, whose own father was deported to Auschwitz and exterminated, draws in this cramped and airless tailoring “workroom” a portrait of survivors. Six women and two men labor desperately to sew back together the fragments of their shattered lives. The Workroom is a play that touches all of us. The variety of characters with different backgrounds, views on the present, attitudes and challenges to face, invite a wide audience to step into the world of the play. The women span from the girl next door, who desperately wants to get her life and her youth back, to the woman with unspoken connections during the war, to the youngest woman bringing a newborn into a world of uncertainty. Directed by Moni Yakim. Opening February 19 at 7 pm.
