Henning Hegland's The Threepenny Opera

Columbia Theater student Henning Hegland’s production of The Threepenny Opera, Bertolt Brecht's masterpiece with Kurt Weill's incredible music, starring Oliver Burns and others, will run in NYC at The Riverside Theatre April 1-4.

“Because human beings, you might say, have the terrifying ability to turn off their emotions when they please.  That’s why, for instance, the first time a man sees another man standing on the street corner with a stump for an arm, he’s ready, in his horror, to give him ten cents; but the second time he'll only give him five cents; and if he sees him a third time, he'll turn him over to the police in cold blood.”  Scene 1 Mr. Peachum The Beggar King

Six months ago Henning Hegland gathered together a 13 person production team to build a world for The Threepenny Opera.  A world filled with sounds, still and moving images, an ever shifting set lit by unexpected sources of light.

Nicholas DeMaison, musical director, conductor, and founder of Opera Cabal, brings with him a 10 piece orchestra of some great musicians to breathe Weill's music to life.

This production is funded in part by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music, Inc.

When: April 1-4
Where: The Riverside Theatre, 91 Claremont Ave (Btw 120/121 St), NYC
