Norsk Folkedans Stemne 2006
Norsk Folkedans Stemne 2006 welcomes Folkedanslaget Solja on August 18, 19, & 20, 2006 at Camp Brotherhood! They were last dancing with us in 1999. Due to the large number of young adults interested in halling or laus dans, 25 year old Anders Buflod is instructing classes in this athletic dance. Musicians will enjoy learning from Kjell Gjevre, a talented torader player, and Else Myhr, fiddler. Kjersti Prestkvern, an expert in Norwegian folk costumes or bunader, is also joining the group.
As a member of Noregs Ungdomslag / Norwegian Youth Movement, Solja's main goal has been to spread understanding and interest in song dances, figure dances, couple dances and regional dances along with folk music, folksongs and regional costumes. Solja has a large and varied repertoire. Most programs consist of figure, old-time, song and provincial dances, but Solja also has a repertoire of old-English contra dances such as Lanciers and Kvadrilje from the late 1800s. These contra dances were very popular on the large, rich farms in Norway from the 1880s up until the beginning of the Second World War.
Norsk Folkedans Stemne is a U.S. and Washington State nonprofit corporation. Their purpose is to teach, share, and promote understanding of Norwegian folk dances, music, songs, and heritage and culture through their annual gathering.
