Sensuality & Survival: New Nordic Designs 2006

This exhibition, which starts on March 9 at the Atrium Gallery & Courtyard in San Francisco, presents new Nordic design with an emphasis on both the sensual beauty of craft design as well as innovative design allowing for survival in emergency situations.

Sensuality & Survival presents the works of young designers from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark, as well as from the Nordic 5 Arts group of the San Francisco Bay Area. The exhibition emphasizes the Nordic lifestyle along with ideas exploring ways to improve the quality of life and help save our planet for future generations. Moreover it highlights designs allowing for survival in emergency situations such as earthquakes, heart attacks or various accidents. This is merged with the sensual beauty of craft designs made from glass, ceramics, stone, metals, wood and fabric.

Among the Norwegian design objects are the Xplory stroller and the KinderZeat from Stokke, the AutoSock, "Celia" and "Kilde" glasses and decanters from Cathrine Maske, and an emergency shelter from Design Without Borders.

Iacob Heiberg, Director of Design from Norsk Form, will present Design Without Borders and the emergency shelter during a speical session March 16th.
