The famed Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud will give three concerts with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra this May.
He has extensively performed and toured with a great number of leading orchestras in Scandinavia, the UK, in the Baltic, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. He has been a frequent guest with St.Petersburg Philharmonic orchestras.
As a recitalist and chamber musician Kraggerud had a memorable New York Weill Hall / Carnegie Hall recital debut in 1998 followed by a series of recitals for major presenters in New York,Washington D.C., Chicago and San Francisco. Kraggerud has performed on many major international festivals in Scandinavia, UK, USA. Bergen International Festival appointed Kraggerud its "Artist-in-residence 2004".
Kraggerud is also known as an outstanding violist and enjoys an equally fine reputation as leader / soloist of chamber orchestras and sinfoniettas. Kraggerud perform improvisations, and is an experienced composer. This include writing music arrangements and his own cadenzas. His CD recordings on NAXOS include critical acclaimed CD - bestsellers of Grieg: Violin Sonatas (with Helge Kjekshus) and Norwegian Favorites for violin & orchestra (with Razumovsky Orch./Engeset).Recently issued are Sibelius and Sinding Violin Concertos w/ Bournemouth Symphony/Bjarte Engeset (cond.)
Kraggerud is recipient of Norway's prestigious "Grieg Prize" and has studied with Camilla Wicks, Emanuel Hurwitz and Stephan Barratt-Due.
Together with Trinidadian-Canadian conductor Kwamé Ryan and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra he will perform Grieg: Holberg Suite, Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 5, "Turkish" and Beethoven: Symphony No. 1. Grieg’s Holberg Suite is a lovely work for string orchestra that pays tribute to the 18th-century Danish poet/playwright Holberg by recalling the sounds of the music of his era. Beethoven's First Symphony is also featured, a charming and enormously appealing work.
