Exihibition at Studio 216 in Gransbury, TX

Norwegian artist Espen Krukhaug explores the changing shapes and forms during the hours of darkness in his photography exhibition.

Since the project 'Before Dawn' was started at the end of 2004, Krukhaug has explored the night - insomnia and solitariness in specific. He has tried to grasp the total sense of silence one can find during the night in any town. The night, for Krukhaug, is a time when most people are missing a lot of beautiful things while sleeping. He explores the beauty of streets which in the daytime are full of people hastening from A to B, but at night are quiet and empty. Thus one can feel like the only person in a deserted world. He is also amazed by ‘light pollution’, making a constant glow in the cities; these are the sources to the strong colours in Espen Krukhaug works. The photos are taken in England, Norway, China, Russia, Scotland and USA.

‘Before Dawn’ started its tour at Wuhan, China in March 2008, and has visited Norway, UK and Thailand before arriving Granbury in Feburary. Later this year the prosject will be exhibited in Atlanta (USA), Hamburg (Germany), Yogyakarta (Indonesia), Leeds (UK), and Ottawa (Canada).

Espen Krukhaug is a photographer and a video and installation artist, who enjoys mixing the three mediums, often with sound or music. 'Before Dawn' comes with a musical collaboration with the experiment/ ambient band 'Orangedark'. Their compositions are inspired by the photos. Orangedark consists of Hanne Libak and Thorbjørn Aasver.
