Dramatic Reading: Ibsen's "When We Dead Awaken"
The UC-Berkeley Department of Scandinavian and the Norway House Foundation present a dramatic reading of Henrik Ibsen's final play on April 26.
In commemoration of the international Ibsen Year 2006, the UC-Berkeley Department of Scandinavian and the Norway House Foundation present a dramatic reading of Henrik Ibsen's final play. Written in 1899, this lyrical meditation on the emotional costs of the artistic life is the most modern of Ibsen's plays, and the poetic power of its language, even in English translation, makes it a fine choice for reader's theater.
This reading will be directed by Barbara Oliver (director of the Aurora Theatre's recent acclaimed production of Ibsen's The Master Builder) and will be performed by UCB students and members of the UCB theater faculty. A discussion of the play will follow the performance, moderated by Professor Mark Sandberg of the Department of Scandinavian. Admission is free.
When: Wednesday, April 26, 7 p.m.
Where: Durham Studio Theater, UC-Berkeley campus
