"Revisited": Helene Sobol at the Nordic Heritage Museum

Photographs from Norway by Helene Sobol will be exhibited at the Nordic Heritage Museum, Seattle, from February 17 through April 2.

Born in Norway and a resident of the U.S., Sobol often returns to Norway. Recently she visited the Lofoten Islands where she was captivated by the unique landscape with its jagged mountain ranges and the many lakes and valleys which came alive with the magical glow of the midnight sun. She also traveled from Oslo across the vast and partly snow-covered Hardangervidda to Bergen, passing through majestic valleys and roaring waterfalls, as well as an exciting trek to the foot of the Briksdal Glacier. Sobol enjoys capturing the scope and grandeur of Norway’s magnificent landscapes, but is also drawn to smaller details which may reveal unusual forms, intriguing shapes, exquisite textures, fascinating patterns, or striking colors. Inspired by Norway’s natural beauty, its endless coastline dotted with boats for both recreation and commerce, its small towns and villages, some dating back hundreds of years, she has selected photographs – both representational and abstract – that personally capture moods and bring back memories.
