Norwegian Photography in Philadelphia

This February, the curator group curate.no will present, in association with the University of Arts in Philadelphia, PA, an exhibition featuring five Norwegian artists called Norwegian Contemporary Photography: Dualities

The exhibit is, according to curate.no an attempt to present one out of many possible answers to the question: What is Norwegian contemporary photography. The group of artists have been brought together in order to chellenge the tratidional paradigme for Norwegian photography, which has been predominantly that of describing landscape and nature. This presentation has been much more focused on that wich takes place in interpersonal relationships and the human response to its surroundings.

The exhibition will offer a wide array of arguments and discourses, which is only natural when you bring together six different artists that have worked in all different corners of the world. Due to the fact that the exhibition will be held at an educational institutions, it was important for curate.no to present a selection that "will give a more correct view of the underbrush of artists about to blossom and set their mark in the future" so the "students of the University of the Arts can take a closer look at their Norwegian contemporaries."

The artists include Roar Hatteland, Are Viktor Hauffen, Hilde Jørgensen, Kjetil Kausland, Liv Ragnhild Kjellman and Heidi Nikolaisen. All the artists have exhibited both in national and international group exhibitions, and some have already had their first solo exhibitions.

When: Opens February 9, runs through March 9.
Where: Sol Mednick Gallery, Media Arts Department Terra Building, 15th Floor 211 South Broad Street (University of the Arts)
