Norwegians gave more than $40 million to UNICEF’s work to help children affected by HIV and AIDS around the world, in this year’s TV-Gala “Unite for Children”. A first-time mobilization in New York resulted in $42,000 alone.
The UN has established that more than 50 per cent of the approximately 100 million children who do not attend school are affected by war and conflict. The Norwegian governments is contributing NOK 100 million (EUR 12 million) to Save the Children so that these children can also receive schooling.
Norway was the world's first country to establish an ombudsman for children and for 25 years the ombudsman has represented a voice for children in the public debate. Many nations have since followed the Norwegian example.
