Organization

The Norway-U.S. Forum for Research, Innovation and Higher Education consists of a Steering Committee, an Advisory Board, and General Membership. Operational responsibility for the Forum has been assigned to the Norwegian Embassy in Washington D.C. A Steering Committee for the Research and Technology Forum in Canada has also been established. The operational responsibility for this forum has been assigned to the Norwegian Embassy in Ottawa.

Steering Committee

The Committee’s primary task is to work with the Embassy in further developing and implementing initiatives and activities as seen appropriate and timely in the context of the overall purpose and objectives underpinning the formation of the Forum, as well as the mandate and subsequent deliberations of the Forum’s Advisory Board.

Examples of relevant activites would include the holding of seminars, workshops, and conferences, various types of information gathering and dessimination measures, promoting and facilitating a variety of individual and particularly institutional contacts, networks, exchanges, and partnerships. The Committee will find ways to appropriately monitor and assess the overall progress and impact of the activities of the Forum.

The Steeing Committee communicates formally to the Advisory Board through its Chair.

The Committee will meet according to need, estimated to 4-5 times a year, normally at the Embassy in Washington D.C., not excluding other suitable venues. Members not residing in Washington D.C. will have the possibility to "meet virtually" through existing means of electronic communication, primarily internet and the use of e-mails.

Membership carries no financial responsibility on the part of the members, neither does it imply any economic compensation to the members.

Advisory Board

The Board’s primary mandate is to inspire, propose, oversee and advise on how the Forum can best serve as a useful, innovative and focussed instrument in consolidating and strenghtening creative knowledge bonds between Norway, the United States and Canada.

Serving and reporting to the Board will be the Forum’s Steering Committee and the Forum Secretariat based in the Norwegian Embassy in Washington D.C.

The objective is to have one or two annual meetings of the Board, either in the U.S. or in Norway. Beyond this, the Board’s normal mode of operation will be to meet "virtually" through existing means of electronic communication, primarily internet and the use of e-mails.

Board membership carries no financial responsibility on the part of the members, neither does it imply any kind of economic compentation, nor does it necessarily imply any kind of institutional commitment on the part of the institutions and companies which the members represent.
