Norwegian Rune Olsen is a new member of the Sculptors Guild and this exhibition is a survey of the Guild's history spanning the course of six decades.
Beginning in 1936, and developing a renown and rich history of visionary and avante garde artists of divergent aesthetics, Guild members have been contributing to the cultural landscape of New York, for over 70 years through public and professional exhibitions. The Sculptors Guild Membership is based on nominated sculptors with proven qualities of personal and professional excellence.
Jerelyn Hanrahan, Guest Curator, states “my exhibition criteria was to celebrate the past, the present, and the future of the Guild, exhibiting the evolution and consistent re-definition of the third dimension. Through visits to foundations and the studios of contemporary sculptors who are currently members, I discovered the rich history of the Guild, and recognized an inspired ebb and flow of influences ranging from traditional, contextual, conceptual and technological approaches that continue to redefine sculpture in the 20th Century.” (www.sculptorsguild.org).
