Andreas Wiig defended last years gold medal in the men’s slopestyle finals, knocking off superstars like Shaun White and Kevin Pearce as well as fellow Norwegian Mikkel Bang.
"I was super stoked on that first run, and got it just the way I wanted to. I'm glad to prove that last year wasn't just one great year, and keep it going," said Andreas to expn.com on his third X-Games gold medal.
Torstein Horgmo left the pack in the big air finals, which this year featured a new judging format in which the crowd and people at home were given the chance to vote for their favourite. Torstein won the finals in a match up against Travis Rice, one of the true legends of the Snowboarding world by nailing a switch backside 1260. The victory came only a year after Torstein had to cancel his first X-Games appearance because he broke his back.
In the ski slopestyle event, Andreas Håtveit was last man standing, with two runs both scoring a 94.00 which is incredible, and four points more than second place finisher Jossi Wells. Håtveit told Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet that he was nervous, but managed to get into a training session rhythm after the first run. He ended the competition, and any doubt as to whether or not he would win by stomping a 1440 on the last jump.
Hedda Berntsen, who won a bronze medal in the World Championship Slalom competition has transferred without seemingly much trouble to the ski-X event, and took home her first and Norway’s fourth medal, capturing 2nd place in the finals.
