Thorkildsen to Try for Third Gold Medal in Javelin

Last updated: 8/9/2012 // Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen will compete in the men's javelin finals, Saturday, August 11, in the London Olympics.

Thorkildsen previously won the gold medal in both the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the 2004 Olympics in Athens. In Beijing, he also set the world record with a throw of 90.57 meters.

Thorkildsen was born Kristiansand in 1982, and is the first male javelin thrower in history to be European champion. He comes from an athletic family: his father threw the javelin and his mother ran the 100m hurdles.
