Concert held for Norwegian community in Katy, Texas

Last updated: 1/18/2013 // In Katy, two visiting Norwegian musicians, Daniel Herskedal and Marius Neset, put on a magical performance in front of a large Norwegian audience.

On Thursday, January 10, the duo Herskedal/Neset performed in front of more than 50 Norwegians in the Living Word Lutheran Church in Katy. Daniel Herskedal on the tuba and Marius Neset on the saxophone and clarinet performed both a Christmas tune and a Balkan inspired melody among a wide repertoire of different songs. Sponsored by the Norwegian Church Abroad, the two musicians gave the audience a powerful and unique experience in the world of melodic and rhythmical jazz.

The young musicians stopped by Houston as a part of their tour across the United States – a tour that is meant to promote the duo’s new album, ”Neck of the Woods.” However, by the time they reached Houston, the album had already sold out. Thus, illustrating how successful the tour has been. This image was further enhanced by a great show in Katy. In fact, the audience was so excited about their performance that they demanded an encore from the young duo.

- The tour has been great – and the response from audiences has been even better than expected. Today, we were thrilled to see so many people in the crowd. In fact, this is probably the best showing we have had while touring so far, Herskedal and Neset said after the concert.

Following their great performance, the duo quickly got ready to travel to their next destination. They did, however, have the time to enjoy a few of the Norwegian Church Abroad’s famous waffles. The last show of the tour will be held in Los Angeles, and hopefully the success will continue for the two musicians when they hit the West Coast.
