Before taking up his duty as Consul General in Houston in July 2007, Mr. Seim’s career included positions as Deputy Secretary of Defence, Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador to The Czech Republic and Ambassador to The Arab Republic of Egypt. Mr Seim earlier also served with Norway’s diplomatic missions to India, Bangladesh, Portugal, Kuwait and the OECD in Paris.
Mr. Seim is pleased and honored to represent his country in the “World Energy Capital”.
“Norway is one of the world’s leading producers of fossil fuel. We are the world’s third-largest exporter of natural gas and the fifth-largest exporter of oil. More than 100 Norwegian companies are established in Houston. This is the larges concentration of Norwegian energy companies abroad, and the main reason for having a Norwegian Consulate General in this city”, explains Mr. Seim
“Recognizing our country’s blessing, Norway is well aware of its dual responsibility to supply the world with oil and gas, while working to reduce the environmental impact of the industry. Norway is actively engaged in efforts to promote technology for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), alternative energy, energy efficiency and reduction of deforestation.”
For the promotion of Norwegian technology in the US and cooperation between Norwegian and US companies, the Consulate houses representatives from INTSOK, Innovation Norway and the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce.
Consular services to Norwegian’s in the Southern Region of the US, as well as to foreigners that want to visit Norway, are of course a core activities for this mission. The Consulate also focuses on creating awareness about Norway, for instance through cultural exchange between our country and this region of the US.
