Learn About Norwegian Business Opportunities and Best Practices at the Texas-EU Summit

Last updated: 3/28/2013 // The 2nd Annual Texas-EU Summit will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Austin on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. This year, Norway will join 10 other European countries in addressing the Summit’s featured topic: “Trade, Investment and Innovation.”

Organized by the Center for European Studies (CES) at the University of Texas at Austin, the Texas-EU Summit is an annual event that seeks to provide an overview of the various ways in which U.S. businesses, policymakers and economic development professionals can target new opportunities in Europe. More specifically, the conference aims to highlight the opportunities for transatlantic trade and to encourage U.S. based enterprises to expand business relationships with Europe.

As the second largest exporting state to the EU, Texas has a growing interest in nurturing business relationships with the European nations. Total exports from Texas to the EU are approaching $30 billion annually, and the UK, Germany and France are the three leading sources of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Texas. Furthermore, the emerging markets in Eastern and Baltic countries represent additional, undiscovered opportunities for Texas-based companies.

International trade policy experts will join with leaders from the transatlantic world of business and politics in leading the Summit’s sessions. At this year’s Texas-EU Summit, Adeline Hinderer has been invited to give the keynote speech. As the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to the U.S, she will provide the attendees with a European economic update and discuss the future of transatlantic relationships.

Following the keynote, Norway, Sweden and Denmark will present some of Scandinavia’s business opportunities and best practices. Speaking on behalf of Norway, Statoil’s Dr. Frederick Beck, the Director of Drilling & Well in the Bakken field, will share his views and perspectives on the opportunities related to Norwegian industry. In subsequent sessions, officials from the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands will speak about the leading export sectors for Western Europe, while representatives from Hungary and Turkey will lay out the roadmap for business success in their emerging markets.
