Would you sign up for three months in shark-infested waters on a raft made from balsa-wood, with a captain who cannot swim? Kon-Tiki, the Oscar nominated film about Thor Heyerdahl's 4000-mile South Pacific expedition- premieres tonight, Friday April 26, at The Landmark Theater in Los Angeles. First screening starts at 12:15 p.m.
Kon-Tiki is the Norwegian film about the legendary adventurer and explorer Thor Heyerdahl and his crew of brave men and their 4000 mile expedition on the Pacific Ocean in 1947. Their goal was to prove that ocean-faring Incans could have settled Tahiti. Immensely popular and impressively done, the film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
To make sure the film would not be redubbed for international audiences, the directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg made two versions, one in Norwegian and one in English, all with the same actors. Friday April 26, the English version will be showed at The Landmark Cinema in Los Angeles at 12:15 p.m., 2:40 p.m., 5:05 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 9:50 p.m.
