In the last several years, the chamber chorus "Sacred and Profane" has championed the rich choral tradition of the Scandinavian countries. May 11 and 12, the chamber chorus will perform in Berkeley and San Francisco and sing some of Scandinavia’s most beautiful and inspiring music, including a number of works based on the rich folk music of the region.
Sacred and Profane is a chamber chorus committed to the accomplished presentation of the rich and varied art of a cappella choral music. Their repertoire encompasses a diverse blend of styles and periods, including medieval through contemporary, sacred and secular traditional ethnic and folk styles. Sacred and Profane present their concerts in San Francisco and the East Bay.
May 11 and 12, Sacred and Profane's program will feature music from all the Scandinavian countries, including Grieg's lovely Four Psalms for choir and baritone, Leif's moving Requiem, Mäntyrjärvi's delightful Four Shakespeare Songs, Sixten's Peace for the victims of the massacre in Norway in 2011, and two pieces by composer Karin Rehnqvist.
The concerts will be held Saturday May 11 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Berkeley, and Sunday May 12 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Francis Lutheran Church in San Francisco.
Tickets are $18 online, 22 at the door, students $18. Group tickets 10 or more $15 each.
