The annual celebration of Norwegian culture and physical fitness took place in New York on Sunday, October 2. Spectators came out for the homemade Norwegian waffles, live music and lots of Norwegian flavor.
3/27/2006 :: Three runs took place on this magnificent and sunny day: the Norway Run (1.7M), Grete’s Great Gallop (13.1M), the Troll Stroll (ages 2-10). Close to 7,000 registered for the races this year, a record-high number of participants.
New this year was Norwegian/American student exchange program which inspired cross-cultural knowledge, understanding and appreciation. Five young runners from Oslo took take part in the event. Five students from New York visited Norway and took part in a similar race in Oslo in May 2005. The event was kicked off by the incredible nine-time New York Marathon winner Grete Waitz.
The Norwegian Festival Day in Central Park is organized by the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in New York in co-operation with the New York Road Runners Club and New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. The festival was, as always, free and open to all.
