no Magazine in New York

The Norwegian lifestyle magazine no has set its sights on the Big Apple and the world, and launched its first international edition in New York this June.

The magazine is one of the most edgy publications on the Norwegian market, and has over the years featured almost every major cultural icon in Norway on its cover. As no now sets its eyes on New York and the world, ambitions and expectations are naturally high.

A Cultural Bombshell
“The Norwegian editions of no Magazine are not usually extensively about Norwegian issues, but since this is our first journey out, we would load it on thick” editor of no Signe Prøis says about the first international edition. “This premiere issue is all about presenting a plethora of our highly acclaimed musicians, artists, photographers, stylists, writers and designers.”

Even the magazine’s name has a strong connection to Norway, if not in the traditional way. The name is the same as Norway’s top-level domain on the internet, and signifies the young and creative edge of the urban population the magazine appeals to. This, however, is curiously enough not a very large segment people in Norway, and that, in many ways is why no now has decided to make the world their playground.

“It certainly has something to do with being placed in the complete outskirts of everything. We need to reach out and embrace the world, since the world doesn’t necessarily reach out to embrace us” says Prøis.

Launching Big
When no goes international, it does it in no small fashion, with an initial distribution in more than 30 countries world wide and hopes to attract the trend-conscious and innovative people in global metropolises such as New York, Tokyo and London, and so when Prøis picked a place to launch no international, New York City was of course the obvious choice.

The official launch party for the beautiful and glossy new no international was held on June 20, at the chic Underwater Lounge in Brooklyn, NY.
