Each year, NYCxDESIGN, New York City’s official citywide celebration of design solidifies New York’s position as a design destination. Coming to multiple design fairs in May are talented Norwegian design studios.

WantedDesign, 13-16 May

-          A Few Good Things: New Designs From Norway

At WantedDesign the exhibition “A Few Good Things: New Designs From Norway” will exhibit new designs from 10 of the most gifted Norwegian design studios. Curated by Metropolis’s Paul Makovsky, the exhibition explores how we in a world full of ‘stuff’ may not need more stuff, but rather fewer, better-made objects. The exhibition will present designs from Anderssen & Voll, Andreas Bergsaker, Fimbul, Kristine Five Melvær, Lars Beller Fjetland, Noidoi, Runa Klock, Sara Skotte, Sverre Uhnger and Martin Solem.


Sight Unseen, 13-16 May

-         'Norway x New York' Norwegian-American design collaborations at Sight Unseen OFFSITE

Directed by Sight Unseen, 5 Norwegian design studios have been spending six months working on a long-distance collaboration with 5 American design studios on brand new. Their new and exciting design will be showcased at the Sight Unseen Offsite fair. The collaborations are Bjørn van den Berg (NO) – Bower (US), Vera & Kyte (NO) – Ladies & Gentlemen (US), Silje Nesdal (NO) – Farrah Sit (US), Morten and Jonas (NO) – Assembly (US) and Hallgeir Homstvedt (NO) – Jonah Takagi (US). Hallgeir Homstvedt will also be part of the Shaker Exhibition at Sight Unseen.


International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), 14-17 May

Javits Center, New York

-          Insidenorway: Northern Lighting, VAD and OPE

ICFF highlights contemporary furniture and interior design, and the exhibition Insidenorway will display designs from Northern Lighting, VAD and OPE.

Norwegian designer Caroline Smedsvig has been selected to be one of the 11 young designers to be part of ICFF Studio this year. She will presen her ‘Ask’ bench at ICFF Studio. At ICFF this year there will also be ICFF Launches of Stokke Austad’s new product at Umbra Shift, Martin Solem’s table for Bernhardt Design and Daniel Rybakken’s lamp for Luceplan.

There will be a special conversation with leading designers Francisco Gomez Paz and Daniel Rybakken at the Luceplan showroom on May 14 as they talk about their work, inspiration and latest lights for Luceplan, Mesh and Stochastic respectively.
