Performa 13: Norwegian Pavilion Without Walls

Performa 13 is the only biennial dedicated to commissioning, presenting and exploring new visual art performance across disciplines. For three weeks Performa and a consortium of arts organizations will band together to transform New York City into the performance capital of the world. Over 50 Norwegian artists are contributing to the biennial and nine Norwegian art projects are represented as a part of The Norwegian Pavilion Without Walls.

The Pavilions Without Walls, a new Performa initiative modeled on the idea of the Venice Bienniale's pavilions, were created to forge strong partnerships between New York and countries around the world, allowing Performa to foster deeper levels of cultural and artistic exchange. The strategy of the inaugural year's Norwegian Pavilion is specifically to highlight cultural producers in Norway and present some of the country's most outstanding artists. The program is co-curated with leading institutions such as Ny Musikk, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (HOK), Stavanger Kunsthall, Kunsthall Oslo,, Hordaland Art Centre, Entrée and UKS-Unge Kunstneres Samfund, in collaboration with the directors and curators there.

The Norwegian Pavilion Without Walls includes:

Tori Wrånes - Nøkken
Jenny Hval - In Tones From Light to Dark
Maja Ratkje - Voice is the Original Instrument
The Goodness Regime
Lina Viste Grønli - Practicing Haydn
Flag NYC
Kristin Tårnesvik and Espen Sommer Eide - Performa Radio
Pedro Gómez-Egaña - Object to be Destroyed
Marthe Ramm Fortun - Inverted Sky
