Embassy adoption program

Last updated: 3/18/2013 // Every year, the Embassy “adopts” a class at a Washington, D.C. elementary school and teaches it about Norway. This year, a class from Stoddert Elementary School is the lucky one. Recently they got to experience the Kennedy Center, with all its history and Nordic Cool exhibits.

Through the adoption program, the Norwegian Embassy has the opportunity to teach and inform one school class every year about Norway and subjects connected to Norway. Last week, the children got the opportunity to experience the Kennedy Center.

With guidance from the Kennedy Center’s own guide, the children learned about the building and the many contributors to making it the great construction it is today. Gifts from all over the world are gathered in this enormous cultural center and the children got the opportunity to listen to amazing stories about events that have taken place in the building.

As “soon-to-be Norwegian experts,” the children asked many interesting and tricky questions about both the Kennedy Center and Norwegian culture. The tour ended up in the children’s activity center, where participants could enjoy informative games on tablets, as well as playing with Legos (which are from Denmark and were therefore featured at Nordic Cool).

After a long day at the Kennedy Center, their heads filled with new information about Norway and the other Nordic countries, the students were offered pea soup and pancakes, a traditional lunch or dinner in both Norway and Sweden.
