The Norwegian ambassador speaks very warmly about the organization Ski for Light. This organization works towards enhancing the quality of life and independence of visually impaired adults through cross country skiing. Ambassador Strommen participated at their Ski for Light International that was held the last week of January in Traverce City, Michigan. He himself has only one functioning eye and is especially grateful for all the dedication and hard work the volunteers put in to make this possible.
“Skiing is hard enough if you can see, but if you are visually impaired it is extra challenging” the ambassador said. “I am very proud that this is a Norwegian tradition brought over to America, and what a great opportunity this is for vision-impaired people to go cross country skiing.”
The ambassador found the relationship between the skier and the guide especially impressive. And he speaks very highly about the organization’s enthusiasm and sense of purpose. “Marion Elmquist especially has done so much to make this possible and I have awarded her the Ambassador’s Award for all her hard work,” he said. Although it was very cold and windy, the ambassador is very glad he participated. “I met so many lovely people and some hard working dogs,” the ambassador said with a smile.
