National Gallery of Art Screening Norwegian Children's Favorite

Last updated: 1/2/2012 // The Norwegian children’s film Magic Silver is screening at The National Gallery of Art in Washington on January 7 and 8. The Gallery’s film program for children and teens is free of charge.

The movie tells the story of Princess Bluerose, a gnome living in the Norwegian mountains. Her small community is responsible for making the transition between day and night, a magic hour dependent on the magic silver only gnomes possess. When the silver is stolen, the world is plunged into eternal night and Princess Bluerose sets out on a remarkable journey to retrieve the silver and save the world from unending darkness.

Magic Silver is a spin off from a very popular Norwegian children’s TV show which has been a part of Norwegian children’s Christmas traditions since 1999. The TV show Jul i Blåfjell (directly translated into Christmas in the Blue Mountain) was originally a 24 part series and aired as one of the traditional televised Advent calendars with one episode every day from December 1 through December 24. The film Magic Silver was released in November 2009.

Magic Silver will be screened in Norwegian with English subtitles at the following times:

January 7 at 10:30AM
January 8 at 11:30AM
In East Building Concourse, Auditorium
