An evening of Norwegian Drama – Women and Entrapment: Flight or Surrender.
Dramatic readings from two stand-out plays: Ibsen’s classic, The Doll’s House, a highly controversial work in its time, and Sea Gull Eaters, the 2008 winner of the Prix Italia, the international theater award, by the contemporary feminist- playwright, Cecilie Løveid.
From the 19th century master to the avant-garde of the early 21st century, the questions of how women struggle to overcome the confines of traditional roles still resonate. What happens to Nora after she slams the door of her bourgeois home? Would her choices have been different had she been a working class girl, like Kristine? An audience-engaging discussion will wind up the reading, followed by a reception.
Admission is free: first come, first seated at 18:30
