Concert with three Norwegian musicians in Houston

Last updated: 3/2/2010 // Cutting edge musicians Frode Haltli, Trygve Seim and Maja Ratkje will hold a concert at Norway House on Friday March 5th.

Haltli, Seim and Ratkje will with their distinctive sounds bring Norwegian contemporary music to Houston, Texas. The concert will be held at the newly refurbished Norwegian House, which also houses the Norwegian Consulate General, Innovation Norway and INTSOK. The concert has been made possible through the support of Houston organizer Nameless Sound, a company which presents concerts by premiere artists in the world of creative music, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo.

Three cutting edge Norwegian musicians

The duo of Frode Haltli (accordion) and Trygve Seim (saxophone), who recently played at the renowned Portland Jazz Festival in Oregon, are known for their tightly focused clarity. They are currently under contract with the famous record company ECM. Haltli’s sound contains traces of Nordic tonality and folk music even though he is often placed in the “new music” category. Seim finds inspiration in the “Nordic sound” of Jan Garbarek, but transcends both influence and categories such as jazz and new music to create his own distinct, warm type of chamber music.

The third artist, Maja Ratkje (voice, electronics), has been crossing musical boundaries for fifteen years, both when she is improvising and composing for other musicians. Ratkje has conservatory training, but is known for confusing and captivating her listeners with detailed, anarchic and beautiful sounds.

The concert will be held at 8 pm at Norway House on Friday March 5th and is free of charge. Complimentary valet parking.

Norway House is located at 3410 West Dallas Street, 77019 Houston Texas.
