The hardcore favorites of Kvelertak will be playing in NYC at Webster Hall on the National Day of Norway, on May 17. The band is going on an extended U.S. tour this spring, joined by the metal bands Cancer Bats and Black tusk. Equally loved by fans and critics, Kvelertak is known for their high energy shows and performing with Norwegian lyrics. Kvelertak (meaning stranglehold or chokehold) is a six-piece black n roll band from Stavanger, Norway, formed in 2007. All lyrics are written in Norwegian, the band’s native language, and concerning Norse mythology/Viking folklore.
The six members include Erlend Hjelvik (vocals), Vidar Landa (guitar), Bjarte Lund Rolland (guitar), Maciek Ofstad (guitar), Marvin Nygaard (bass), and Kjetil Gjermundrød (drums). Known for their consistent, idiosyncratic sound, the band states that their main influences are rock and roll, black metal and punk.
In March 2011, Kvelertak was presented with two Spellemann Awards—a prestegious Norwegian music award similar to the American Grammy Award—for Best Newcomer and Best Rock Band. The band was also granted the Statoil stipend during by:larm in 2011. The stipend aims at promoting Norwegian bands and artists outside of Norway.
Their new album "Meir" was just released with good reviews, and we are looking forward to a hardcore celebration of the National Day of Norway in New York City.
