Lindstrøm is acknowledged as one of the finest, most respected and well known producers in the international electronic music world. The producer is considered a real scoop for concert- and festival bookers all over the world and his management, Up Front Artist, receives live-gigs requests on a daily basis. The classically trained, Frank Zappa loving and three time winner of ‘Spellemannsprisen’ (Norwegian Grammy) for best electronic album, is however a man who prefers staying at home in Norway, making music and hanging out with his kids. Touring is therefore kept to a minimum. Concerts in the US however the producer highly values. “I really like playing in the States” said Lindstrøm in an interview with Filter magazine last fall. “Every time I am there I get the feeling that people are coming out to see me specifically and they’re prepared for me. I appreciate that. It happens in Europe sometimes, but not that much”.
Not your average producer
Lindstøm, who is classically trained in piano and a Mozart and Grieg lover, is not your average electronic producer and musician. Producing hits and commercialization is not his first priority as he notoriously makes songs too long for radio play. ‘It’s easy to press record and suddenly have twenty minutes of a song!”Lindstrøm confined to The Daily Swarm, “it’s harder to say, “Maybe I should stop now!” ’. His unromantic relationship to music is yet another feature that sets him aside from most musicians, “to me, music is more like doing homework than waiting for divine intervention”.
Boney M and Queen
Hans- Petter finds music from the past to be far more inspirational than most new electronic music. Boney M has followed him since he at the age of eight found a cassette with their first album, Take the heat off me, on a side walk, and in Lydverket, a music program on the Norwegian state brocading channel NRK, Lindstrøm featured in a Queen special were he talked about his fascination for the band’s timeless and universal sound. Although references from the past are present in Lindstrøm’s music, innovation is somewhat of a trademark for the producer. On each released album a different element is introduced, adding new dimensions to the music and never boring his fans and audience. Bands like Radiohead, Animal Collective and Björk- known for their creativity and forward thinking, are therefore great inspirational forces and loved by our producer.
Lindstrøm recently released the new single De Javu from the new album ‘Six cups of Rebel and if you happen to be in Denver, New York, Toronto or Detroit the last weekend in May, you will have a rare chance to go see this musical legend and genius play.
